REFLECTIVE NARRATIVE:
In this course, I learned how the Japanese Language and Culture, and the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors connect with each other. During this class I developed my individual learning plan (ILP) with the help of my major advisor. As the course progressed I gained knowledge of which classes fulfill certain major learning outcomes and some other requirements. With this class I understood that with a Bachelors in Spanish I can use it in many different ways for example in education as a teacher, a substitute, a school counselor etc, but also I can use it in business as a translator, an entrepreneur because being bilingual has many benefits. We had different speakers that gave out helpful and beneficial information about cultural differences, alumni and their testimonials about how they obtained their degree and their current jobs, also about the steps after graduation and graduate programs. After all the presentations, I have decided that I would like to stay at CSUMB to pursue my teaching credential and my Master’s in Education. Definitely, this course has opened my eyes to all the services and programs that CSUMB and others campuses offer and gained new abilities such as being able to create an Eportfolio, a college level resume and personal statement. I am very proud of my culture and I can say that I am glad that I chose Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures as my major. Overall, I’m looking forward to becoming a Spanish teacher and empowering new generations with our beautiful language and culture.
