Reflective Narrative:
In this course, WLC Major Capstone I learned a lot about teamwork and time management because the capstone project was a project of three. Our capstone topic was about the educational barriers of students learning English as a second language in a high school on the central coast of California. In SPAN 300 Pre-Capstone, we found all the sources that we were going to use in our paper and all the resources of technology were put in practice in WLC 400. The capstone project was definitely a challenging, but rewarding project because I enjoyed putting this paper together from the introduction to our topic to the literary review, methodology, discussion and conclusion because as English Learners we were able to connect our personal experiences to the project. The most challenging part was definitely the literary review because there were not many studies done in Monterey County about English Learners. However, we hope that with our study we can raise awareness to carry out more studies on this important topic because the Spanish-speaking community is growing. In order to prepare ourselves to share our findings at the Capstone Festival, we had different presentations in class where our classmates and professor gave us feedback to better ourselves. With the help of my group, we put together google slides in both English and Spanish to present our learning throughout our capstone project. Also, during this course I finished my e-Portfolio where I put all the work that I did during my time here at CSUMB. I can say that I gained so much knowledge during this project and I’m looking forward to future research, which is coming soon because I will be starting my teaching credential program. There is always something to keep learning and improving and I know I want to keep improving on my time management skills.
